Reconnect and Restore Hope.

Couple standing together in the snow and holding hands

Has your relationship hit a rough patch?

Maybe you’ve had some difficult conversations that ended with tears, tension, or pulling away. Or perhaps you’re struggling to find your groove after a major life transition—moving in together, becoming parents, deciding to open your relationship, or a betrayal of trust.

You may be feeling stressed and anxious, with negative thoughts that keep looping.

Perhaps you question whether you’re “good enough,” fear that you’re failing as a partner, or find yourself confused on how to move forward.

You’re tired of feeling caught in this cycle:

  • Avoid talking about problems. Stuff down your emotions and pretend everything is fine.

  • Break down and blurt out what’s bothering you—perhaps in an awkward, ill-timed moment.

  • Retreat with sadness, frustration, or hurt feelings after having a dead-end discussion.

how we can help

Couples therapy can help you reconnect with confidence.

It may feel impossible now, but you can find that spark of connection again. You can learn how to communicate your wants and needs without drama. You can feel at peace in your relationships. And we can help you get there.

Couples therapy helps you:

-Identify emotional and behavioral patterns that keep you stuck

-Explore alternate ways of relating and responding to your partner

-Develop skills and strategies to move your relationship forward

We’ll guide you through this process by tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. Our approach to couples therapy comes from a place of balanced optimism: believing that neither you nor your partner are the “problem,” and that it’s the cycle you’re in that needs fixing.

Common questions about couples therapy

  • Couples therapy sessions, ideally, will focus on examining the root causes of your problems vs. rehashing old arguments.

During our initial meetings it may be helpful to deconstruct some conflicts so that we can better understand patterns, triggers, and how people respond to each other. But ultimately the goal is to learn new skills and strategies.

Together, we may brainstorm actions you can try, or questions to contemplate, in between sessions to reinforce what was discussed.

  • We welcome all types of relationships in our practice—open, polyamorous, or monogamous—as long as they are consensual. Most of our non-monogamous clients seek therapy as a “couple” (or an individual) vs. a throuple or a group, so that is the term we use.

  • Great question! We’ve found that couples who enjoy the best outcomes from therapy seem to have a few things in common:

    1) they genuinely like each other and want to work things out; there is mutual fondness and admiration.

    2) both partners have the ability to emotionally self-regulate during session; they may get upset but are respectful in how they communicate and can refrain from interrupting.

    3) each person is open to examining their own areas for growth and improvement; it’s never about “fixing” just one person.

We’re happy to speak with you further about whether couples therapy is a good option to explore.
